The Air Training Corps is one of the largest operators of the scheme
The Award is nationally recognised by employers as highly beneficial to a young persons education.
It helps demonstrate that the holder of the award is keen to take on new challenges, has a higher level of self-confidence than others, and also have leadership qualities and team work experience.
Three Levels
A young person can enter the scheme at one of three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold.
What level an individual enters, is dependent on age.
- An individual can start the Bronze Award on their 14th Birthday
- An individual can start the Silver Award on their 15th Birthday
- An individual can start the Gold Award on their 16th Birthday
It does not matter if an older cadet enters straight in at Silver or Gold, so long as they meet the minimum age requirements.
What do the Awards consist of?
All the awards consist of 4 sections (5 for gold) that cover various areas of study.
- Service Section - Helping others in the community
- Expeditions - Planning and carrying out an expedition
- Skills Section - Can encompass any hobby, skill or interest.
- Physical Recreation - Encompassing Sport, Dance or Fitness
- Residential Project (Gold Only) - An enterprise carried out by young people not previously known by the participants
On Completion of a particular award, a badge is awarded which can be placed on the left shoulder pad of a cadets jumper.
